Sustainable Fishing at Caboolture River Weir

Fishing with Care: Enjoying Caboolture’s Weirs Responsibly

Caboolture River Weir isn't just a beautiful place to cast a line—it's also an important site for education, conservation, and responsible fishing practices. Stocked and cared for by the dedicated volunteers of the Caboolture Shire Fish Stocking Group Inc., this weir plays a valuable role in supporting our local freshwater fish populations and protecting endangered species.

What's Unique About This Spot?

  • Sustainably Stocked: The weir is stocked with Australian bass and the protected Mary River cod. Thanks to the Stocked Impoundment Permit Scheme (SIPS) and a grant from the Council of Moreton Bay, fish are released into the waterway to help maintain healthy, recreational fisheries.

  • Conservation Focus: The Mary River cod is an endangered species and strictly a "no take" fish in this area. If caught, it must be released immediately with care.

  • Joined SIPS in 2016, although stocking has occurred previously under other funding initiatives.

A Peaceful Fishing Location

Located in the heart of Caboolture, the weir is accessible for paddlecraft and small vessels. Families and fishers alike can enjoy Apex Park, which includes BBQs, shelters, a playground, toilets, and walking/bike tracks. Nearby accommodation is also available for longer stays.

For another great spot, check out Woodford Weir on the Stanley River—home to Mary River Cod (no take), along with Australian Bass and Golden Perch.
