We received these broodstock as part of a research project that DAF undertook for the development of new aquaculture finfish species  Mullet (Mugil cephalus) for Queensland. They released their remaining stock (juvenile fish) back into the waterway.

This was a donation from the Department and is worthwhile mentioning. The volunteers were just from CSFSG and the research scientists from DAF. (No other volunteers outside the group were present as they wouldn't be covered by insurance.)

900 - 1200 sea mullet (Mugil cephalus) juveniles (83 – 180 mm total length) were released into the river above the weir.

The benefits of mullet in the waterway are that "Mullet provides ecological services to aquaculture systems through the removal (and assimilation) of sludge and undesirable algal species, in addition to nutrient remediation (e.g. nitrogen)." Dr Evan Gouldan DAF.
